Burglary Suspect Arrested After Identified by Witness

A witness of the burglary correctly identified Julian Batieste, 20, of unincorporated San Leandro, as the suspect police had stopped.

A burglary suspect was arrested by San Leandro Police Tuesday evening.

At around 9:30 p.m., San Leandro police officers responded to a burglary report on the 700 block of Crocus Drive.

Officers of San Leandro Police Department’s Tactical Unit used to address street crimes had stopped a vehicle driving in the dark without headlights on. The officers suspected the vehicle they had stopped may have been involved in the burglary.

A witness of the burglary correctly identified Julian Batieste, 20, of unincorporated San Leandro, as the suspect police had stopped. The property that was stolen was also recovered from the vehicle he was driving.

“This incident had a great outcome. Residents recognized suspicious activity and they immediately reported their observations to us," said Lieutenant Randall Brandt. "We were able to immediately get the information to our officers and they were able to successfully locate the suspect and arrest him. This is a perfect example on how crimes are solved with community assistance.”

This is an ongoing investigation and there are Detectives assigned to the case.

Witnesses should contact the San Leandro Police Department’s Investigations Division at (510) 577-3233 to report suspicious activity. Information can also be texted anonymously to 847411.
