Bay City News—A 4-year-old boy riding his bicycle alongside his uncle's pickup truck on private property north of Glen Ellen was killed when he veered into the vehicle's path, according to the California Highway Patrol

The boy was riding down a dirt and gravel portion of the property located at 5600 Enterprise Rd., north of Glen Ellen in unincoporated Sonoma County,  at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday as his uncle, Gregorio Soto Reyes, drove a 2003 Chevy pickup, CHP Officer Jonathan Sloat said.

Reyes, 34, of San Leandro, was traveling eastbound on the road, and his nephew was riding his bicycle behind the vehicle but began to overtake the truck on a slight downhill grade, Sloat said.

As the child passed the Chevy, he veered his bicycle to the left and into the path of the truck, Sloat said. The truck struck the bicycle, ejecting the boy and throwing him beneath the moving vehicle.

The Glen Ellen and Bennett Valley fire protection districts responded to the incident, a Sonoma County Fire and Emergency dispatcher said.

Further investigation into the collision is ongoing, and Sloat said that from the preliminary investigation, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
