Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Conducting Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday

Alameda County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, July 5, 2014.

The sobriety checkpoint will be in an area with an established accident history and DUI arrests.  A key objective of this sobriety checkpoint is to inform drivers of the inherent risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or a combination of both that make them a danger to themselves and others.  

Representatives from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) will be present at the event to provide information about the inherent risks of drunk driving.

Informational signs will be posted advising motorists they are approaching a sobriety checkpoint. Once stopped at the checkpoint, motorists will be delayed only a few seconds while a deputy explains the purpose of the checkpoint and examines the driver for signs of driving under the influence.  

Information regarding the specific location of the checkpoint will be provided to Bay Area media organizations approximately two hours prior to the start of the checkpoint.
