Alameda County Sheriff's Office Holding Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday

The sobriety checkpoint will be in an area with an established accident history and DUI arrests.

From Alameda County Sheriff's Office:

Alameda County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, Aug. 24. The sobriety checkpoint will be in an area with an established accident history and DUI arrests.

A key objective of this sobriety checkpoint is to inform drivers of the inherent risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or a combination of both that make them a danger to themselves and others.

Representatives from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) will be present at the event to provide information about the inherent risks of drunk driving.

Informational signs will be posted advising motorists they are approaching a sobriety checkpoint. Once stopped at the checkpoint, motorists will be delayed only a few seconds while a deputy explains the purpose of the checkpoint and examines the driver for signs of driving under the influence.

Yes. I acknowledge the harrassment, even though I didn't address it above. I have had few other ACSD incidents and they were reasonable...except for driving/traffic issues: stopped for "speeding" when I wasn't; parking tickets for me and my neighbors that were not legit, etc. As to effective: the presence of MADD, whose agenda is to make illegal driving with ANY alcohol in your system speaks to the long term goals. As to "unreasonable search and seizure," we give up some of that when we get licensed, but we can still discuss different views of what is "unreasonable," and I suspect we are closer in our opinions than we are to ACSD. MADD would have us give up our rights to any alcohol in our system when driving, and, therefore, any means to determine if we have had any.

you know if they told you njust where this pit stop was going to be at ,that it seems that the drunks will come and all the other folks that should not be out on the road . so besure you have your license with you and all lights work and have that front license plate . hope they get a few drunks off the road . but why just have just one pit stop . they should have a few more .

They're all set up on Mission Blvd right in front of the Creekside shopping center...makes trying to get into the shopping center a nightmare. I'm sure the store owners are pleased. It also looked like every sheriff deputy in the county was there - even a Livermore cop! Sure hope there's no other crime happening tonight!

Thanks for the suggestion, Ken but we do not remove our stories. We will let you know when we get word of the next check point.
