Alameda County Fire Chief Demetrious Shaffer has announced his retirement at the end of the year to spend time with his family.
Chief Shaffer started his career in Mountain View and was appointed the City of Newark’s Fire Chief in 2005. He joined Alameda County when the City of Newark began contracting with the County for fire services in 2010. After serving for Interim Fire Chief for six months, he was appointed as County Fire Chief in December 2012.
Chief Shaffer was an important part of the department’s success.
“The Board of Supervisors extends its sincere appreciation to Chief Shaffer for his vision, leadership and professionalism,” said Board President Keith Carson. “He will be missed as a key member of the County’s executive leadership team and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
