A Cop, a Robber, a Bride-to-Be ... All Aboard a BART Train

"Get me to the county courthouse in time ..."

By Bay City News Service

An off-duty San Jose police sergeant aboard a BART train with his fiancée to get their marriage license detained an Oakland woman for allegedly trying to rob passengers, San Jose police said.

San Jose police Sgt. Fredrick Kotto was inside a BART train near Oakland en route to San Francisco with his bride-to-be at about 10:25 a.m. on Feb. 11, police said.

Kotto then heard a commotion behind him and saw several people in a physical altercation and heard someone shout "Stop him! He tried to rob me," police said.

When Kotto went to investigate, people were yelling for someone to call the police and he observed the suspect standing on a seat and pushing other passengers in an attempt to escape, police said. One of the passengers tried to subdue the suspect with a stun gun weapon but failed, police said.

Kotto, concerned that the suspect might escape, blocked her path, raised his shirt to display his police badge and off-duty gun and ordered the suspect to the floor.

The suspect did not cooperate after Kotto grabbed her arm and appeared to be trying to get away so he pulled her down to the floor, held her wrists together and got her to calm down, police said.

When the train pulled into the West Oakland station, BART police officers boarded and took the suspect into custody as the crowd of passengers cheered Kotto and the officers, police said.

Kotto asked BART officers if he could make a statement about the incident later so he and his fiancée could continue to their appointment to obtain their marriage license and the officers agreed, according to police. He and his fiancé were able to make their appointment several minutes early, police said.

Kotto, an internal affairs investigator, later telephoned BART police detectives to provide his account of what happened with the suspect, police said.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged the suspect, Jennifer Davis, 31, of Oakland, with one count of robbery and her probation from a previous conviction was revoked, police said.

I have been saying and warning for a long time... The BART system is like a moving city - there are thugs, pan-handlers aboard these trains. The station agents and the police have to be vigilant in their duties to avert any incidents.

Rob, *I* provide decent, safe, affordable housing for low income folks. It can be done. Yes, IRead More take Section 8 vouchers. Guess what, they work, and they disperse poverty so you do not end up concentrating poor people into a ghetto. All you're doing is creating ghettos. As for the religious women, surely you understand the difference between charity freely given and taxes confiscated from me at the point of a gun.

As previously mentioned, if there were a "shortage" of affordable housing, rather thanRead More creating a brand new ghetto in the middle of downtown SL, those tax dollars could have gone to buying up blocks of foreclosed houses and fixing them up. But you'd rather build new construction at a higher cost to taxpayers. Wonder why...

If there wasn't a demand, people wouldn't be lining up dozens deep for every unit. These will beRead More nice units, well managed. There are folks buying up & rehabbing foreclosed properties. Remember, I sent you a link? As for your distaste for taxes (except perhaps when they fund your splendid education), the Sisters disagree w

It's slightly used but I don't remember where I bought it from. I don't see any brand name on it. IRead More just priced it based on the lowest one available on Amazon. If you're interested, make me an offer. Maybe we can agree on it. Thanks for your inquiry.
