2 Men Charged With Murder in Fatal 2010 Shooting in Alameda

Leondre Paige, 24, and Daquan Lane, 24, were arrested in connection with the shooting death of 35-year-old Eric Lamont Franklin. Police say Paige has also been identified as a suspect in a San Leandro homicide case.

By Bay City News—

Two men have been charged with murder for a fatal shooting in Alameda four years ago, police said today.

Eric Lamont Franklin, 35, was shot multiple times in the 700 block of Eagle Avenue shortly before midnight on Sept. 11, 2010, then was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was pronounced dead.

Alameda police said that during their initial investigation, witnesses described the shooter, additional suspects and a vehicle that they saw fleeing the area, but no one was identified.

The suspects who have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with Franklin's death are Leondre Paige and Daquan Lane, both 24. They were arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court last week and are scheduled to return to court on Wednesday to enter pleas.

Alameda police said they began looking at Paige in 2011 when the Alameda County Sheriff's Office investigated a homicide in unincorporated San Leandro and identified Paige as the suspect in that case.

Alameda police said there appeared to be a connection between both murders. Authorities said Paige was arrested at the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento on March 15 for driving a stolen rental car and Sacramento police later discovered that Paige was wanted on a murder warrant in Alameda County.

Paige was then charged with murder on April 1 for Franklin's death, Alameda police said. Lane was arrested without incident at his home in Oakland on March 31, police said.

Authorities were not immediately available for comment on whether Paige has been charged for the homicide in unincorporated San Leandro in 2011.
