$10,000 Reward For Killers Of Castro Valley Man Shot Defending His Mother-in-Law

Delun Pan of Castro Valley was shot to death Friday night outside his mother-in-law's home on the 15500 block of Harbor Way. His killing was the first homicide in San Leandro in 2013.

Now the San Leandro City Council is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of those responsible.

The investigation is being led Detective Sergeant Ted Henderson, pictured above.

Pan was 32.

Police say that around 9 p.m. Friday his mother-in-law was unloading items from her car when she was accosted by two persons — officials are not sure whether it was two men or a man and a woman.

These two individuals tried to rob her.

When Pan came out to stop them he was shot in the gut.

Police found him sprawled on the sidewalk.

They whisked Pan away to Eden Hospital, but he died there of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police say the suspects fled toward Lewelling Boulevard in a dark colored sedan.

“This homicide was extremely unusual for our city," said Police Department spokesman Lt. Randall Brandt. "We are hoping that this reward will generate some leads that will benefit this investigation.”
