San Leandro Neighborhood Scam

Hi Neighbors,

I wanted to share with you that a San Leandro homeonwer on Sybil near Bancroft was burglarized while he was at home yesterday, Saturday, January 25 at 4pm. A man knocked on his door and said that he was doing work on the condo fence next door and needed to get into his back yard.  The homeowner gave him permission and the man (hispanic, mid-twenties with a short beard and mustache) insisted that the homeowner come with him. The scam artist had an elaborate story of what type of work he was doing for the condo complex. While the homeowner was occupied in his backyard, another man entered the homeowners house and took coins and jewelry. The scam artist asked homeowner to stay in the back yard while he went around to the other side of the fence, and he never showed his face again.

Please share this story with others and be aware of these scams and if any contractor you may be working with needs access to a neighbors yard, please contact your neighbor.
