When did you take your last CPR class?

Unscheduled real-world practice before going into my CPR renewal month.

This is going to be a short and sweet post- I was hanging out with fellow members of a Search and Rescue outfit when a member of ours that's just 16 started choking to death about 15 feet away from me at another table... and no one noticed but me.

You know that feeling you get, when you think there's trouble but part of you says, "Nahhhh, they're kids, just playing around..." Then you realize it's anything but a joke... That's how it happened. Here I had the silly thought that this would just be a dinner with friends from all over the state.

Long story short, it was the classic hands at the throat "Universal Sign for Choking", and after about 5 seconds when I noticed she was changing color and NOT playing around, before I knew it I had her out of the booth, and after 3 thrusts a chunk of ice hit the floor and bounced away, she started breathing again.

Training for "What if..." in this case means a family won't have to bury their child. I can only hope if (or when) some horrible event happens to my daughter that someone that is trained happens to be close by.

Please take the time to get trained in CPR for Infant, Child, and Adults. Choking/Airway instruction is part of these courses and happens more often than one might think. The odds are that you'll get one chance to give someone back years of their life. Be prepared for it.
