This is not as much a blog posting, as an exhortation to all San Leandrans to join the San Leandro Freecycle group.
Freecycle is a simple concept: you give away the stuff you don't want, and pick up the stuff other people don't want. No money is exchanged, nobody keeps score, you can feel good that you are helping someone in the community and you make sure your stuff stays out of landfills.
Plus, in this economy, why not save any money you can?

You can give away - or pick up - practically anything in Freecycle. This week alone I've gotten a new couch and a bucket of air-dry clay. I've also given away children's books, clothing, toys and an old TV.
You can also use Freecycle to request specific items you want - though you should do so sparingly.

Of course, the more people who participate in Freecycle, the better it is for all - in particular when it comes to picking up - or getting rid of - stuff of limited mass appeal.
For this reason, I want to encourage all of you to join Freecycle and ask your friends to join as well.
