Today is National Grandparents Day, a holiday started by then-President Jimmy Carter in 1978.
So take a moment to honor your grandparents in some way.
Grandparents are frequently the keepers of precious family memories, recipes and legends.
So if you have a living grandparent, why not visit or call them and start capturing some of their family history and wisdom for future generations.
How?
Some families try to preserve their history by interviewing a grandparent on camera. Others give blank journals or “memory books” to grandparents, or ask them to gather together their picture scrapbooks, which often prompt reminiscenses.
The task of sharing a life story can be overwhelming.
But with some support from family and friends, a grandparent's legacy can be passed down to generations to come.
So let National Grandparents Day serve as a reminder to start this process before the opportunity slips away.
