On Saturday (Aug. 25) parents and kids will gather in a hangar at the Hayward Airport for a chance to take a free flight as a passenger in a small plane.
The free excursion program, called the Young Eagles, is a gift that members of the Vintage Aircraft Association give to area kids ages 8 to 17.
Pat Polehla coordinates the program. Email her at youngeagles29@aol.com or 510-703-1466 to get the release form you will need to sign — and to find out if the weather is good enough for the flight to occur.
Weather permitting, the 2012 schedule calls for flights on July 28, August 25, September 29, October 27 and December 1.
Children who show an interest in flying can repeat the experience.
Thanks to school board member Mike Katz-Lacabe for passing on the tip.
If you take advantage of the excursion and snap some pictures, please upload them to Patch.
