Oakland, CA- The third annual Successfully
Raising Young Black Men Parenting Conference is a powerful, prayerful and prophetic conference offering more strategies than ever before to help parents who are struggling with their children’s desire for independence and their need for guidance.

Dr. Kevin D. Barnes, Sr., in collaboration with other pastors and community leaders, is expanding the success of last year’s Parenting Conference with sound advice to help parents facing very real dangers as their sons and
daughters grow into young men and women.

Speakers will include Reverend Chuck Stecker, founder and director of A Chosen Generation, Bishop Frank Pinkard from Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church,  James Steiner, CEO of Men’s Ministry Catalyst and coordinator of Iron Sharpens Iron and Dr. Gerald Agee of Friendship Christian Center. This highly acclaimed  parenting conference will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 8:00am-2:00pm at Abyssinian Baptist Church, 528 33rd Street, Oakland, CA 94609. Dr. Kevin D. Barnes, Sr., pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church, husband of First Lady Brenda Barnes, father of three sons and a grandfather of five, developed the conference based on the principles of his best-selling book, Successfully Raising Young Black Men and its sequel, Successfully Raising Grandchildren. Each year, he invites pastors from other Bay Area churches and community leaders to share their wisdom and best practices with parents who want to strengthen the foundation of their children’s lives and circumvent
problems that ensnare too many youth. Dr. Barnes’ motivation for hosting this dynamic Parenting Conference was propelled by the sobering realization that young black men are rapidly becoming an endangered species. Many young black men are in the penal system, while 40% are losing their lives at an alarming rate due to street violence. Because of this threat to the future of so many, Dr. Barnes wanted to provide a forum offering viable
solutions to change the course for young black men and others in need of
guidance. Topics will include: Showing Genuine Love: Hugs Prevent Thugs, Taking Authority, The Importance of Education and Character Development. Dr. Barnes founded the Successfully Raising Young Black Men, Inc. to provide ongoing support for the Bay Area community’s families in need.
