San Leandro Library Big Read - Literary Gathering

Stories Between Cultures with Mitali Perkins

Dinner and discussion with author Mitali Perkins. Born in Calcutta, India, Mitali lived in Ghana, Cameroon, London, New York and Mexico, before her family settled in Northern California when she was 11.

Mitali will share her experience of growing up between two cultures, explore some of the tensions immigrants face, and introduce the richness of Bengali culture which is presented in The Big Read book title The Namesake. Perkins is known for her humor and intelligence and her compelling and thought provoking presentations, which engage audiences like no one else!
