Museum to Screen Legacy of the Nisei Films to Honor 72nd Anniversary of Pearl

Harbor

On Saturday, December 7, the San Leandro History

Museum
will screen Legacy of the Nisei Veterans, a documentary film produced
by the San Leandro Public Library. The showing is to honor the 72nd anniversary
of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, for those who served, those who remember and
those who want to know more about this important story. The film will be shown
at 11:00 am and again at 1:00 pm at the San Leandro History Museum, 320 West
Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro. The film runs 90 minutes. A documentary film
about the beginning of the war will be shown between the Legacy screenings.

Legacy of the Nisei Veterans shares the experiences of
10 men in the segregated 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most decorated

unit of its size in U.S. history, and the largely unknown story of the Military

Intelligence Service (MIS). The MIS members, who served in the South Pacific,
were key to the campaign against Japan by translating documents, interrogating
prisoners, monitoring radio transmissions and collecting battlefield information.
The British Political Warfare Mission was a joint Anglo communications effort
contributing to the victory over Japan. The film has been shown in libraries
and universities all over the state and is used in the curriculum at various
California institutions.
