Les Misérables, the epic stage musical

Several San Leandro residents are in the cast of Les Misérables, opening the 48th season of the Woodminster Summer Musicals in July.  Performances are July 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, all at 8 pm.  For tickets and information, see www.woodminster.com or call 510-531-9597.

Les Misérables, based on the classic 19th century French novel, tells the story of Jean Valjean, who has been unjustly imprisoned for 19 years and is released as the story begins. When he finds nothing in the outside world but mistrust and mistreatment, he breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life. His new life is difficult as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. The sung-through pop opera overflows with melodies that are already standards, like "I Dreamed A Dream," "On My Own," and "One Day More." Its powerful affirmation of the human spirit has made Les Misérables a popular masterpiece.

Woodminster Summer Musicals are performed outdoors in historic Woodminster Amphitheater in beautiful Joaquin Miller Park.  Come early and enjoy a picnic with your family, a walk in this hillside park, and the beautiful bay views.  As the sun sets, take your seats in the amphitheater and enjoy an evening of music and magic under the stars.
