BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE FOR CHILDREN IN SHELTER

Building Futures with Women and Children, along with Councilmembers Diana Souza and Ursula Reed,  invite you to support the  "2013 Backpack Drive",  providing new school supplies for homeless children.  From July 17-Aug. 19, donations will be gratefully accepted during normal business hours at the following locations:  Building Futures’ Administrative Office (1395 Bancroft Ave), Manor Branch Library (1241 Manor Blvd.), Floresta Plaza Dental (579 Floresta Blvd) Bank of America (1400 E14th-Downtown), Bank of America (1200 Fairmont-Bayfair).


If you can help equip the children for school, please consider donating these much needed items:


GENERAL SUPPLIES -   backpacks, calculators, clear tape, erasers, glue sticks, rulers, scissors (safety and regular), stretch book covers, and USB flash drives.

PENCILS, PENS, & MARKERS -   #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, pencil cases & boxes, pencil sharpeners, pens, and washable markers.


PAPER & NOTEBOOKS - three-hole binders, three-hole notebook paper, spiral notebooks, clear folders with fasteners, composition notebooks, day planners, K-3  writing paper, plastic report folders, pocket folders, post-its, sheet protectors, and copy paper.

San Leandro based Building Futures with Women & Children serves women and children in crisis and builds communities free from homelessness and family violence.  Founded in 1988, the agency operates two homeless shelters, Alameda’s Midway Shelter and the San Leandro Shelter.  Additionally, Sister Me Home Domestic Violence Safe House and Bessie Coleman Court, 52 units of permanent and transitional housing located at Alameda Point. Other services include a 24-hour toll-free crisis line; and a Domestic Violence Outreach Program providing prevention and support services.
