Arab American Month Celebrated at San Leandro Library

In celebration of Arab American Month, the San Leandro Public Library is proud to have the ASWAT Women’s Choir perform for its community.  The choral performance  will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 16 at the Main Library, located at 300 Estudillo Avenue in Downtown San Leandro. Admission is free.


 


ASWAT is an ensemble for classical and folk Arabic music. It performs Muwashahat (Arabic poetry, sung in the tradition of Andalusia, Spain) as well as traditional and contemporary songs from the Arab World. ASWAT has achieved a professional level of competence and has made appearances in numerous colleges, universities, festivals and conferences in the Bay Area.

The ensemble consists of singers and musicians from different parts of the world and welcomes anyone who is interested or even curious about Arabic music. ASWAT is part of ZAWAYA, a non-profit forum that provides instruction and presentation of Arabic art, poetry, literature, and all aspects of the culture.
