Monday

Tuesday 

Read about the five entrepreneurs who made it to the finals in a competition for free food court space at Bayfair Center and $25,000 in start-up money. You can find that story . We’ll announce the winner on Patch on Monday.   

One or two men fired on an East Bay Regional Park District police officer on Monday night near the Upper San Leandro Reservoir. It was that they were defending a marijuana grow. 

Police confirmed they found evidence of a clandestine pot farm in the remote area later in the week. Read that story . 

The San Leandro Adult School won two awards for its English as a Second Language program. Read about the awards . 

Wednesday 

Wednesday was the World Series debut of the District 45 Big League All-Stars — made up of the top 16-18-year-old players in the East Bay from San Leandro to Union City. Read about the team .

Thursday

Fares are going up Monday on AC Transit buses. The basic adult fare will increase by 10 cents to $2.10. Read the full story . 

County supervisors Nate Miley and Wilma Chan are proposing stiffer rules against filching recyclable cans and other materials from recycling bins in unincorporated areas. The City of San Leandro already has such an ordinance. Read about the county proposal — and some residents’ concerns —. 

Friday 

A mountain lion was sighted by a resident Thursday night on Benedict Drive near the I-580 freeway. Read about it . 

The Citizen's Redistricting Commission released its final proposed maps on Friday, and if approved, San Leandro will no longer be voting for state and federal legislators with its historical allies to the south and east. Read about the changes .
