Squatters Move Out, Take Cash for Keys

The family squatting in a foreclosed property in the Broadmoor neighborhood moved out on Wednesday.

A family that had been for several years in a foreclosed home in the Broadmoor neighborhood moved out on Wednesday, ending a saga of frequent police visits and frustrated neighbors.

On Wednesday afternoon, the real estate agent assigned to the house by Bank of America did a walk-through with the residents and signed off on a cash for keys deal, San Leandro Police officer Kerri Kovach said.

Under the deal, the bank had offered the family $5,800 to vacate the home or else face forced eviction. The house will now presumably be prepared to go on the market.

Neighbors living near the home had complained about a long string of suspicious incidents at the home. Police were called to the house 38 times between April 2009 and January 2011, mostly to carry out security checks.

The real estate agent, Felicia Duncan, could not immediately be reached for comment.
