Mallon Replaces Bohne As Public Library Chief

Twenty-year San Leandro Public Library veteran moves to the top rung of the ladder.

City Manager Chris Zapata announced the appointment of long-time library employee Theresa Mallon to the position of Library Director.  Ms. Mallon, a San Leandro native, accepted the position on January 2, 2013.  Mr. Zapata stated, "The promotion of Theresa Mallon is well deserved and important as the library system is a true resource for San Leandro.  She will continue the tradition of excellent service and leadership set by retired Library Director David Bohne."

"San Leandrans are rightly proud of our public library," stated Mayor Stephen Cassidy.  "From offering countless books, DVDs, CDs, and high-speed internet access, to promoting reading and literacy and organizing special events celebrating the rich cultures of our diverse community, Ms. Mallon and our library staff play a vital role in the civic life of San Leandro."

Ms. Mallon began her career with the San Leandro Public Library in 1992 as a full time librarian.  Since then she has held positions of increasing responsibility including: Reference Librarian; Manor Branch Librarian; Senior Librarian; Head of Technical Services, Support Services Manager and most recently Acting Library Manager.  She holds a Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences.  Her passion and commitment to the library and the community have been demonstrated throughout her career with the City.  "I believe San Leandro has the best public library in the Bay Area.  I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an excellent library team and to continue to serve the community of San Leandro," stated Ms. Mallon.
