Where/When: The historic Bal Theatre in San Leandro; Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

HEROES BBQ

Where/When: Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro; Monday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Enjoy a barbecue lunch while honoring San Leandro soldiers, firefighters, police and emergency medical technicians.

Pricing: Free

LAKE CHABOT REGIONAL PARK

Where/When: 17600 Lake Chabot Rd., Castro Valley; open daily between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Why Go: Have a barbecue or picnic with friends and family by the lake this Memorial Day weekend. The park also offers fishing, boating and hiking/biking trails around the lake. 

Pricing: $5 fee if you park in the lot.

HISTORY TOUR OF OAKLAND

Where/When: First Presbyterian Church in Oakland; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Visit historic places of worship and learn about their architecture and influence on the development of Oakland. Highlighted buildings include First Presbyterian, First Congregational, First Christian churches and Temple Sinai.

Pricing: Free

HAYWARD MUNICIPAL BAND

Where/When: Lone Tree Cemetery,  24591 Fairview Ave., Hayward; Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: The Hayward Municipal Band will perform on Memorial Day in a special ceremony that will include patriotic and inspirational tributes to our fallen heroes. Don't miss this musical tribute to all current and former members of the Armed Services.
