Why Go: Fifteen high school bands from across the Bay Area will perform at the festival with world-renowned composer Frank Ticheli as guest conductor.

FLY FISHING SHOW

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds; Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Casting demonstrations, fly fishing instruction, new products, dealer displays, seminars, celebrity fly fishing personalities, art and more!

Pricing: $15 adults; $2 kids under 12; free kids under 5; $10 for active military; free for Scouts under 16 in uniform.

DESCHUTES BREWERY EXTREME BEER WEEK

Where/When: Porky's Pizza Palace; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Come in for some pizza and beer and enjoy a few BrewPub exclusives you can't get everyday.

Pricing: No admission fee

2011 UFO X FEST

Where/When: Bal Theatre in San Leandro; Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Why Go: This is an exciting conference starring Giorgio Tsoukalos, Michael Cremo, Jason Martell, Ruben Uriarte and Servando Gonzalez of History Channel's Ancient Aliens Series.

Pricing: $25-$100

MONSTER JAM

Where/When: Oracle Arena in Oakland; Saturday at 7 p.m.

Why Go: See more than a dozen of the world's biggest and baddest monster trucks come to the Bay Area for an awesome show of horsepower. Trucks scheduled to appear include Grave Digger, Time Flys, Ironman and Tropical Thunder.

Pricing: $7.50-$125
