Gas Prices Fall Slightly

The price of gasoline has actually dropped the past week.

It's fallen a nickel or even more for a gallon of regular unleaded.

The California State Automobile Association's website reports the average price in California for unleaded regular is $4.21 a gallon. That's five cents less than a week ago.

In the East Bay, the average price now sits at $4.23 a gallon. That's four cents lower than a week ago.

Those prices are still more than they were a month ago. Nonetheless, the recent decline is being seen in most communities along the Interstate 580 and Interstate 680 corridors.

In Livermore, which generally has some of the higher prices in the region, the cost for unleaded regular has dropped considerably. The stations listed on gasprices.mapquest.com in Livermore show prices hovering from $4.19 to $4.35 a gallon, with most places being in the $4.20 range.

In nearby Dublin, the price of unleaded regular ranges from $4.19 to $4.29, according to the MapQuest site.

Castro Valley continues to be one of the lower priced markets with stations selling gas for between $4.11 and $4.19 a gallon.

Down the road in Newark, the prices range from $4.15 to $4.19.

Farther north on Interstate 880, San Leandro motorists are paying between $4.13 and $4.25.

Over the hills in Walnut Creek, the average price ranges from $4.17 to $4.27.
