Where/When: Friday at Meek Mansion and Saturday at McConaghy House in Hayward from 7 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
Why Go: Each evening includes a presentation by the American Paranormal Research Association on recent findings at the houses and participation in an investigation inside one of the houses.

CITYWIDE GARAGE SALE, RECYCLING AND NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP DAY
Where/When: Garage sales at dozens of households around the city, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Recycling at Alameda County Industries, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Participate: This City-sponsored event is designed to promote reuse and recycling of unwanted household goods. Host your own garage sale or print out the map at right and plan your own tour (you can also download the map and list of participating households from the city's website). Later, drop off electronics, appliances, tires, wood, fluorescent lamps, batteries, mattresses and scrap metal at Alameda County Industries, 610 Aladdin Avenue.

Where/When: Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Hayward; Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon
Why Go: Make a positive difference and volunteer with Save The Bay, an organization working to restore more than 600 acres of tidal wetlands at Eden Landing Ecological Reserve on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay in Hayward. Volunteers will do hands-on restoration and stewardship projects to improve habitat.

URBAN AGRICULTURAL AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING BICYCLE TOUR
Where/When: West Oakland Bart Station; Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon
Why Go: This 10-mile urban ride will wind its way to several affordable housing developments with creative food-growing gardens, from individual garden plots to community greenhouses.
Pricing: Free, but bring your own bike
Where/When: San Leandro Main Library; Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Why Go: This musical extravaganza will celebrate and highlight jazz, big band, R&B, pop, and even a little classical music! Proceeds benefit the Arts Council of San Leandro.
