Sprouts & Shutters: Pet Food Express Coming To Downtown San Leandro

Pet food chain based in San Francisco will occupy the former Blockbuster site on Davis Street across from MacDonald's in the downtown shopping plaza.

Retail abhors a vacuum.

As if to prove that point a Pet Food Express will soon fill the downtown San Leandro storefront recently vacated by Blockbuster.

The tentative opening is May 29. The store will be located at 265 Davis Street in the downtown shopping plaza, opposite Sizzler's and MacDonald's.

Pet Food Express is based in Oakland. The chain has 45 stores throughout Northern California. Learn more about it here.

We love Pet Food Express in Alameda. Their self-serve bathing stations for dogs are so handy. Hopefully this store will offer bathing stations too.

Great addition to the shopping center!

My daughter works in the Alameda store so our family loves PFE! Can't wait to have one in San Leandro! As stated above maybe this is a step in attracting other quality stores like Trader Joe

Is this the same GREAT pet food company that is on Castro Valley Blvd?
Carol Parker February 7, 2013 at 07:33 pm
It would be great if Trader Joe's came to San Leandro. I wonder how busy their stores have to get before they consider opening up another one nearby? Alameda is very unpleasant to shop at often because it is so crowded. down the aisles.

One thought I had... I wonder how this new store will impact Mike's Feed Pet store nearby on E 14th Street? It is a small, locally owned business. Perhaps they fill a different niche entirely? Or would they suffer?

Yes Agreed!!!! and Yes TRADER JOE'S please.....
David March 6, 2013 at 06:15 pm
Trader Joe's just isn't into San Leandro. It's really you, not TJ.
Stop being Aldi's, er TJ's psycho ex girlfriend. They've looked, the city has begged, and they never ever want to be in a city like ours.

And you think that plunking down a very low income housing project in the middle of cheap housing inRead More San Leandro is more like Castro Valley? or more like West/East Oakland. It's more like the latter. Can't wait for the drive-by shootings and muggings to ratchet up when we thrown away $9M in tax dollars on building a new downtown SL BART ghetto.

It is unfortunate the Bridge has been unable to stop all crime in Oakland. Sadly, that lesson willRead More probably apply to San Leandro too.

It's even more unfortunate that San Leandro hasn't learned the lesson that concentrating povertyRead More into housing projects leads to concentrations of crime. A lesson *every other* major city in America has learned over the past 50 years of failed urban policies.

What brand is the pastry cutter?
Rowena Peñalba June 18, 2013 at 11:27 pm
It's slightly used but I don't remember where I bought it from. I don't see any brand name on it. IRead More just priced it based on the lowest one available on Amazon. If you're interested, make me an offer. Maybe we can agree on it. Thanks for your inquiry.

Leah, do you have the authorization from Disney for the use of the copyrighted Dumbo character youRead More use for your blog? I thought that the policy of Patch was to deny access to non-authorized materials such as this.
Leah Hall June 2, 2013 at 08:12 pm
Nope.
