Neighborhood recycling stations like this one in the parking lot of a Safeway in San Leandro are a common in California.
State law requires that stores with sales of $2 million or more a year set up convenience centers where consumers can recoup the nickel or dime they are charged as an incentive to recycle.
But who takes advantange of these centers to recoup their nickles?
Do you redeem your beverage containers? Or do you toss them into your recycling containers and let someone else take the trouble and collect the fee?
