Reader's Choice Preschool: Bonnie's Premier Daycare Academy

Broadmoor Preschool makes a strong second place showing in a Patch poll.

Parents and other fans of came out with their votes and testimonials to support this San Leandro favorite in a Patch Reader's Choice poll.

Of 101 votes cast during five days of informal polling, Bonnie's was the top choice of 53 Patch readers.

also got a significant 39 votes in what turned out to be a two-school popularity contest among the Patch audience.

The early learning center at also drew a couple of comments and five votes.

Fans of Bonnie's offered so many glowing remarks, it's difficult to single one out.

But Patch reader Lisa Bunn expressed a common theme. After putting a son through Bonnie's, she described the academy as "a nurturing atmosphere where the children are always happy, productive and learning . .  BPDA's motto is 'learn and play in perfect balance' and it is true! I can't recommend it enough."

Another kudo for Bonnie came from high school teacher and coach Tony Ferris, who praised the program and the woman who animates it. "We just love her," he wrote.

Broadmoor also drew some wonderful comments of support as would be expected for a school that has been part of the San Leandro community for decades. "I have put three kids through the program and consider Broadmoor to be like family," wrote Renee Souza.

Broadmoor is a parent cooperative, which entails some extra time and effort from participants. Reader Janet Piper, a former early childhood educator, said parents, supervised by professional staffers, "are the teaching backbone" of Broadmoor, making it a good choice for those who can find the time and make the committment to get involved.

Two readers identified by first name or intitials offered testimonals to St. Leander, including the observation that its tuition is comparatively low. St. Leander principal Lynne Kennedy Mullen said she enjoyed "raising faith-filled, confident students who live the Gospel message" as well "seeing and hearing lots of giggles and grins."
