If you're on a diet, steer clear of Digger’s Diner which recently started serving hamburgers, hotdogs, milkshakes and other American fare at the food court at Bayfair Center.
But if you want a monster selection with a grave-digger themed name, then pay a visit to this new outpost of a chain that started 18 years ago in Concord.
"Digger's Diner may well serve the best burger you will find in Concord or anywhere else, for that matter," according to a food review in Concord Patch. "That’s somewhat of a bold statement and I’m sure some of you will challenge me on that, but I suggest you go try it and then write me. With names like the Coffin, the Stubb and the Crypt, the burgers are huge and delicious."
Digger's Diner got its name "because original owner, Digger Dave, worked as a graveyard digger before going into the restaurant business," the Patch review continued.
This is NOT the place for calorie-counters or Vegans, but it does hail from the juicy, drippy, better-wear-a-bib school of burger-making.
For Digger's to achieve fame in San Leandro it will have to contend with the Patch's Reader's Choice of 2012 winners in the Best Burger category.
They are:
Winner: Boulevard Burgers
2nd Place: Val's
3rd Place: Nation's, Sam's
Meanwhile, Bayfair Center anticipates the opening of another new food court eatery, Pizza-cademy, before the end of the year.
