Kay's Bridal Boutique To Close Its Doors

Venerable store will shut its Redwood Road storefront on September 30 after catering to Castro Valley brides since the 1930s.

Castro Valley will lose one its most beloved store fronts when shuts its doors on September 30th, about six months after getting new owners.

A notice on Kay's Facebook page reveals the bad news:

"Kay's Bridal is sad to announce that we are closing our doors on September 30th. We have had an amazing 6 months since taking over Kay's Bridal, but we just could't ignore the writing on the wall. Thank you for your prayers and your support. The good news is that if you are looking for a Wedding, Bridesmaid, or Evening Gown we have hundreds available at 30% to 50% off! Please come by and pay us a visit."

Kay's Bridal has been in business since the 1930s, according to a Castro Valley Forum article written shortly after new owners Robert and Karina Gillette took over the store in March.

The store is closed until Thursday and it was not possible to reach the Gillettes to learn more about the store closure or their plans afterward.

Meanwhile, the looming closure leaves a big hole in Castro Valley's heart. For decades the store, now at 21120 Redwood Road, has been the place where brides and bridesmaids were fitted out for that most special of days.

Were you a Kay's bride? Do you recall what the store was like in its heyday? Please share pictures of your wedding party or recollections about your experiences at Kay's.

@ Kay's bridal: im sorry to hear about your closing. From the comments it seems the shop was well loved! RE.STOCK Shop is hosting a bridal flash sale event in downtown Chicago. We would be happy to help you liquidate your inventory at wholesale. Please contact me directly. Jenna@restockshop.com.

While it is sad to see Kay's close their doors after only 6 months in business, there is another Bridal Salon in Castro Valley that I discovered this year!! Dori Anne Veils is at 4270 Seven Hills Rd. and Debra (the owner) is just awesome! I went in there planning to order a gown but found something even better that she sold me right off the rack for an amazing price. I got my bridesmaids dresses there and my veil too. She does it all! She even had a rack of prom dresses and single bridesmaids dress samples that she was selling for $25.00! Here's her number 510-690-0100.

No, Kay's did not close after only 6 months in business. Read the article again! They have been in business for decades. It's the new owners who have had the place for 6 months.

I am sad to see it go. Not a Castro Valley resident but I bought my wedding dress from there. I will miss the beautiful dresses in the window.
