Energy Recovery Inc. Bringing Jobs to San Leandro

The company is moving its Michigan operations to its headquarters and manufacturing plant in San Leandro.

Energy Recovery Inc., primarily a maker of desalination technology, is consolidating its North American operations at its headquarters and production center in San Leandro, the company announced Wednesday.

ERI plans to move its manufacturing operations currently located in Detroit, Michigan to San Leandro, bringing some two dozen jobs, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Half of the jobs would be local hires, according to the paper.

"We will be building an additional manufacturing line in San Leandro," Thomas Rooney, Energy Recovery's chief executive officer, told the Mercury News.

He said all products now made in Michigan would be made in San Leandro by the end of the year.

The company expects the move will cost $4.7 million, but will result in recurring cost savings of around $3 million annually starting next year.

Any marketing social media PR jobs?

Wow, a whole twelve jobs? I hope they are able to find enough qualified candidates to fill them.

last time I checked, 12>0.
What's interesting is the annual savings. Just think if there were lower regulations & energy costs here, how many businesses could move. It's not like Detroit is high cost (but it is high regulation).

Doubtful it was the regulations that sent them fleeing Detroit. Most likely they are trying to save money to appease their shareholders. Just a matter of time before they pack up and move from San Leandro to Shangai.

Yep, we should just run those evil profiteers out of town sooner rather than later. Then we can all be happily unemployed.

From what I hear from people that work for this company is that the management is running this company into the ground. They have fired most of the employees that understand ceramics. Manufacturing ceramics is far different than other types of manufacturing and you need people who understand how to manufacture ceramics. You cant just get people who know manufacturing, you need people who know ceramics. The yield rates have fallen well below what they should be and it is putting the company in a position that is not only costing them alot of money but it is putting their shipments in jeopardy. The management team has done a good job of upsetting the workers and those workers are critical to ERI's success. You cant just go out and hire new workers. In this industry you need employees who make a career out of their jobs and you better find a way to keep those employees for 5 to 10 years not 6 mos to a year. The board of directors for ERI made a HUGE mistake in hiring the current CEO. He has brought all of his buddies to fill positions and their goal is to manage to metrics, which if fine if you have an understanding of manufacturing CERAMICS. CERAMICS is the key word here.

And you think that plunking down a very low income housing project in the middle of cheap housing inRead More San Leandro is more like Castro Valley? or more like West/East Oakland. It's more like the latter. Can't wait for the drive-by shootings and muggings to ratchet up when we thrown away $9M in tax dollars on building a new downtown SL BART ghetto.

It is unfortunate the Bridge has been unable to stop all crime in Oakland. Sadly, that lesson willRead More probably apply to San Leandro too.

Leah, do you have the authorization from Disney for the use of the copyrighted Dumbo character youRead More use for your blog? I thought that the policy of Patch was to deny access to non-authorized materials such as this.
