Bayfair Announces New Lease & Remodel for Macy's

The retail giant that has anchored the mall since 1957 will stay in San Leandro and upgrade its 213,000 square foot store.

 

Bayfair Center's biggest store will be getting a makeover.

Macy's, which has been the mall's cornerstone since it opened in 1957, has renewed its lease and promised to remodel its store, according to Madison Marquette Property Investments, which owns the shopping center.

Macy's ocupies 27 percent of the mall's 813,307 square feet of retail space. Other big retailers include Target, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Staples and Bed Bath & Beyond.

As Patch reported last week , creating some apprehension about the store's future in San Leandro.

Monday's announcement calms those fears.

“The recommitment of such a long term tenant is a testament to the continued distinction of Bayfair Center as a premier retail destination in the Bay Area,” said Madison Marquette Managing Director Eric Hohmann.

Madison Marquette took the occasion to tout other improvements at Bayfair Center, including recent upgrades at Chili’s, 24 Hour Fitness and T-Mobile.

Bayfair is also adding two new tenants -- Digger's Diner and Pizza-cademy -- to its Central Fork food court. Both will open over the summer.

“Bayfair offers such great retail, dining and gathering space for our community,” said Pamela White, Vice President of Development and Project Manager at Bayfair Center.
