Local Gay Marriage Debate Today

The Marriage Debate will take place on July 17 at the Castro Valley Library.

(This event is in Castro Valley but may be of interest to San Leandro residents with strong views on the topic.)

It took some serious logistical planning and flexibility on the part of the participants, but we are finally able to announce the details for this exciting event.

We will be talking about marriage equality, LGBT civil rights and whether or not there is anything "wrong" with gay people.

Please tell your friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers and let’s get a big turnout.

The debate guidelines and moderating duties will be handled with the generous assistance of the Junior Statesmen of America (JSA)/Debate Club.

Date: Tuesday, July 17

Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Participants: Billy Bradford, Reverend Dr. Arlene Nehring and TBA vs. Stacy Spink, Peter Hauer and Trinity Bustra

I forgot, one guy said he was concerned about what sort of world he's leaving if gayness is accepted as Ok basically. I think he'd be better off worrying about what the US war on terror is doing in the Persian Gulf and around the world if he's concerned about his grandkids. The pentagon's absurd War on Terror (terror is a tactic) is a greater threat to the future than a few married gays.

Well, the byline said "by Patch staff" and it was written in the first person, so it sounded to me it was a Patch event. I, personally, object to any "debate" about whether something is "wrong" with any type of affinity group.

I agree totally agree that the word "debate" is clumsy. But life lived in real time is rather clumsy, also. Perhaps this is why so many are drawn to comedy and late night tv/cable programming.... What do you think?

This was not a Patch event. "Patch Staff" picked up a press release by the organizers.

Perhaps "Patch staff" should learn to credit press releases. Look at how other media organizations deal with press releases: they write Press Release somewhere on the page.
