Month-Long Day of the Dead Art Exhibit Opens Today

Nearby Sun Gallery will also hold a reception for the exhibit's artists November 5 featuring food and music and dance performances

Press Release from the Sun Gallery -

The Sun Gallery in Hayward is hosting a free exhibition open to the public,  "Celebrando la Hermosura de la Vida" from October 10 through November 10.

This exhibition will feature works centering around the theme of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), focusing on works that capture beauty, vibrance, and celebration in memory of those who have passed on. Dia de los Muertos originates from Mexico, but is celebrated in many other parts of the world.

Many works that are inspired by this holiday include strong vibrant color, skeletons, flowers, and crosses. Altars are also a part of this celebration and the Sun Gallery is thrilled to have installed altars that commemorate lost family members as a part of this exhibition.

Also included is work from the very talented students of Mount Eden High School who have created artwork featuring skeletons for the event.

Artists already confirmed for inclusion in the exhibition are: Tino Banuelos, Phillip Long, Alex Miloradovich, Peter & Maureen Langenbach, Patra Nesseth-Steffes (altar), Nina Starr, Jane Nielson (altar), Elizabeth Garcia, Beatriz Castillo, Felipe Vasquez and the artists of the East Bay Arts Alliance, Jacqueline Cooper, BJ Jesse, Carrie King and the students of Mount Eden High School, Christine Bender and Betty Ferguson.

An artist reception is planned for Saturday, November 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. with food, music and dance performances by a local tango duo and Grupo Folklorico Tlapalli.

Food and beverages will be available for a small donation at the door. This promises to be a very exciting and lively event so mark your calendars now. We look forward to seeing you here.

The Sun Gallery is located near downtown Hayward at 1015 E. Street. For more information call 510-581-4050.  For a complete list of gallery hours and directions go here.
