Oakland Symphony Chorus - Discovery Day on Street Scene

Want to learn more about Kurt Weill's Street Scene, prior to seeing the Oakland East Bay Symphony  performance on May 13 at the Paramount Theatre?

On Saturday, April 30, our Discovery Day event will bring you to the heart and soul of this vital work, which won the first Tony Award for Best Original Score.

Join OEBS Maestro Michael Morgan, OSC Music Director Lynne Morrow and local conductor and chorus master John Kendall Bailey - along with special guest literary scholar Anne Goldman and soloists - and experience musical highlights of this "American opera," which the prolific Weill and many critics considered to be his masterpiece.

We will explore the lives of composer Kurt Weill, librettist Langston Hughes and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elmer Rice.  We will delve into the long genesis of Street Scene and the place it occupied in its creators' careers and in the fabric of American Musical Theatre.
