Sarafian, who grew up here and attended local public schools, is pictured above with former San Leandro High School music teacher Roy Glover, who she named as one of the important influences in her life .

As Gary Snelling, one of Sarafian's former high school classmates said in the comments to that story: "Katherine was warm, kind, and thoughtful at SL. . . . This well earned success couldn't come to a kinder, more conscientious person."

If you haven't read the profile, it will give you a reason to feel proud of San Leandro.
