Amy Eshelman of San Leandro picked up her new iPad Friday, courtesy of Patch.
She was one of more than 1,300 people who signed up to receive the Patch email newsletter during a promotion at the Alameda County Fair.
With that signup, she and the other new subscribers -- who lived throughout the East Bay -- were entered into a drawing to win an iPad.
"I'm really looking forward to this," said Eshelman, who uses Apple Computers but did not previously own a tablet device.
Eshelman and her family happened to be attending the County Fair when she passed the Patch booth.
"It was good timing because I had just started reading Patch after I heard about it on a school blog," she said.
Signing up for the daily e-mail newsletter seemed an easy way to learn about local news, events, announcement and discussions.
"I really like the community feel of it," Eshelman said of Patch.
In addition to the daily newsletter, subscribers can opt to get breaking news alerts and discount deals. Those who would like fewer emails can sign up for a weekly newsletter and skip the others.
