Things To Know In San Leandro This Week: April 15 to 20

City council meeting, clean water grants and a fantabulous creek-cleanup Earth Day Barbecue.

 

City Council vs. Union Pacific?

The City Council meets at City Hall at 6 pm on Monday, April 15. The first hour, from 6 pm to 7 pm, members meets in closed session to consider personnel and legal matters. The council only reports actions taken in executive session. Discussions are privileged.

The closed session agenda contains this intriguiging late addition: 

"Significant Exposure to Litigation . . . Related to Correspondence (available for inspection at the Office of the City Clerk) from the Union Pacific Railroad Company"

The regular meeting begins at 7 pm. The public agend includes an update on the Bay Area Rapid Transit system from BART Directors Robert Raburn and Rebecca Saltzman.

Deadline for clean water grants

Calling all school groups, youth organization, homeowner associations, church fellowships, community groups and other non-profit organizations.

Get your presentations ready.

Thursday, April 18 is the deadline to apply for $1,000 to $5,000 grants for projects that "enhance and protect the health of local waterways."

San Leandro Creek Cleanup

Celebrate Earth Day early.

Help clean up San Leandro Creek on Saturday, April 20, from 9:30am to 11:00 am. Meet at Root Park, E 14th St at Hayes St, San Leandro.

As an added incentive, all participants can enjoy a free barbecue from 10 am to 2 pm in the lot behind Bancroft Middle School. (Walk east on Haas Avenue, across the footbridge.)

And bring your pedal-powered locomotion device. After the barbecue there will be a bike ride along the creek.
