Theater Organization Wins Grant from Walmart
Curtain Call Performing Arts won a $1,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation on Thursday for a program that gives students a taste of Broadway.
Curtain Call Performing Arts, a local nonprofit dedicated to fostering community theater in San Leandro, was awarded a $1,000 grant Thursday from the Walmart Foundation.
The grant will help fund CCPA's "Gift of Broadway" program, which allows elementary and middle school students to see a Broadway-style show free of charge.
The program has served more than 4,000 students over the three years CCPA has been in operation, according to Andrea Gorham, co-founder of the organization.

Gorham said CCPA organizes two or three main productions a year, which are also shown to students in assemblies. Beginning this year, teachers also have the option to bring CCPA directly into their classrooms for theater workshops.
Artists associated with the show that students are signed up to see come to classrooms ahead of time to teach music and choreography from the show, Gorham wrote in an email.
