Sparks, Blackout From Downed Power Line

PG&E thinks a storm knocked down a power line at Lewelling and Calgary, temporarily blacking out 3,097 customers. San Leandro photojournalist Raul Alvarez shot video of the event.

Nearly 3,100 customers temporarily lost power early Wednesday morning when a power line went down at the corner of Lewelling Boulevard and Calgary Street, PG&E said.

Freelance photojournalist Raul Alvarez captured the sparks and the resulting partial power outage on video, which he furnished to Patch.

PG&E says the outage occurred at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday. It was probably caused by the storm but that isn't certain yet.

The utility said 3,097 customers were initially without power. In less than an hour power was restored to all but 116 customers.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday, PG&E had to shut off power to an additional 104 customers to safely complete repairs.

That left 220 customers without power. The utility said the repairs were completed by 11:30 a.m.

Spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said PG&E regretted any inconvenience and worked as quickly as possible to make repairs.
