Mayor Stephen Cassidy and the San Leandro City Council are pleased to announce that the Recreation and Human Services Department will be hosting the second annual San Leandro Family Bike Party. Community residents are invited to bring children, parents, neighbors, and friends to this free and fun community event that highlights three great San Leandro parks.

"San Leandro is a great place to raise a family. We are excited to again host our annual family bike party, and invite everyone to come out and explore our beautiful local parks," stated Mayor Cassidy.

Attendees should bring their bikes, helmets and locks, and are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner as well.  There will be music, bike decorating and a parade, a bike rodeo, games and lots of fun.  It's also an exciting opportunity to ride with a Police escort.  The Bike Mobile also will be available before the event to repair and tune up bikes free of charge for those participating in the event, on a first come, first served basis.

Please join us on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Washington Manor Park.  The Bike Mobile will be at Washington Manor Park from noon - 2 p.m.; the family bike ride will start at 2 p.m.  From Washington Manor Park, everyone will ride to Bonaire Park for the bike decorating and parade; from Bonaire Park, participants will ride to Washington Manor Middle School Park for more activities and music; and from Washington Manor Middle School Park everyone will ride back to Washington Manor Park for the bike rodeo, music by a DJ, games and a picnic dinner for those that bring one. Two segments are one mile and one segment is one half-mile in length.

For the safety of participants and others around, the following safety guidelines shall apply to the event:  children under 18 are required to wear a helmet, road rules must be followed, and alcohol is not allowed.

The City of San Leandro wishes to thank the following community partners for their generous contributions that made this event possible: Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools for the Bike Mobile, Safe Moves for the bike rodeo, and the San Leandro Optimist Club for their generous financial donation to support youth and family activities.

Don't miss out on this fun event that promotes healthy, active living and quality time with family and friends!
