San Leandro Hosting Movie Nights, Rec Swims & Annual Family Bike Party

The events are scheduled through September.

Mayor Stephen Cassidy and the San Leandro City Council announced that the Recreation & Human Services Department will be hosting a variety of fun recreational programs and activities throughout the summer. Upcoming highlights include Family Movie Nights, Recreational Swims, and the 3rd Annual Family Bike Party.

"San Leandro is a great place to raise a family," noted Mayor Cassidy. "We are excited to again host a wide array of fun programs and activities at our beautiful local parks.  I encourage San Leandrans to come out and join us for these great events throughout the summer."

Wednesday Family Movie Nights:

The public is invited to join their fellow community residents for two upcoming family movie nights. On Wednesday, July 23rd, The Muppets will be the featured selection at Lower Chabot Park, located at Estudillo Avenue and Sylvan Circle.  On Wednesday, August 6th, The Lego Movie will be featured at Washington Manor Park, located at 14900 Zelma Street.  Show times for both events will be approximately 8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.  The events are free and open to community residents.

Family Fun Recreational Swims at the San Leandro Family Aquatic Center:

In celebration of National Recreation & Parks month, the public is invited to attend family recreational swims while enjoying the play structure, splash pad, and slide on Friday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.throughout the month of July.  Pre-registration is recommended for these pool parties due to limited pool capacity.
Those who pre-register also will receive a discounted rate of $3.00 per person (regular drop-in rate is $5.00).  In September, the City also will be hosting end-of-summer Friday Family Nights from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic meal, swimsuits, and towels.  The family aquatic center is located at 14900 Zelma Street.

3rd Annual Family Bike Party:

On Sunday, September 7th, families are encouraged to ride their bikes to Roosevelt Elementary School & the Farrelly Pool for this free and fun special event.  Check in by 1:00 pm for the group bike ride, or come as early as 9:00am to receive free minor bike repairs and tune-ups from the Bike Mobile (courtesy of Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools).  Those interested in free bike repairs are encouraged to arrive early as bike mechanics will be busy that morning.  Other activities and games will be available throughout the morning, including a bike rodeo.  At 1:00pm, attendees will ride from Farrelly Pool to McCartney Park for games, and then on to Siempre Verde Park for bike decorating.

Attendees may also join the free bike parade on the return ride to Farrelly Pool, where families can enjoy a free swim until 5:30 pm.  Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and water for the day, and a picnic dinner for the pool.  Parking is limited, so participants are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event.

Helmets are required for all participants under 18, and attendees are responsible for their own bikes, as well as those of minors under their supervision. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the duration of the event.
