Alameda County to Demolish Former Fairmont Animal Shelter

A former San Leandro animal shelter and it surrounding buildings are set for demolition in the coming weeks according to Alameda County officials.

John Kitching, Deputy Director of Building Maintenance, said it is yet unknown what will go on the count-owned property.

Four wooden buildings will be demolished while the single metal structure will remain.

Kitching said it is a matter of weeks before the buildings come down.

On March 1, 2010, county officials closed up the night drop box at the Fairmont animal shelter in the hills of eastern San Leandro.
