A New Season of Butterfly Walks at the Marina
This is only one of two places in Alameda County where the public can join a naturalist on a guided tour of a butterfly winter site to have all their questions answered.

Flying thousands of miles at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and a mile high in the sky, Monarch butterflies return annually to the same trees at the San Leandro Marina and hunker down to spend the winter.
For more than a decade, the City of San Leandro has sponsored the Monarch Butterfly Program to share this exceptional example of our natural environment with the community.

Participants on the walks discover the life cycle and mysterious migrations of the Monarch butterfly from an expert. After a brief talk we take a short walk to see large clusters of butterflieson the Eucalyptus trees.
This is one of the few places in Alameda County to witness this natural phenomenon!

Wear comfortable shoes that can get a bit dirty. We’ll walk two blocks to the site on paved surfaces, then on grass to view the butterflies. Bring binoculars or borrow some of ours! Reservations are required. The site is only available to the public through these walks, the site is not open to the public. The first hike takes place on Sunday.
