2011 in Photos: A Collage Of San Leandro

Seeing the year through the rear-view lens.

As we reflect on the year behind and plan for the year ahead, Patch takes a brief visual look over the shoulder of San Leandro, as seen through the lens of photojournalist AJ Flores.

The lead photo is a snapshot of local innovation.

It shows Yan Zhou of Forever Pure along with Mike Adelson and David Foster of Renewables West coming together to highlight a locally grown technology.

Renewables West provided portable solar power to run Forever Pure's portable Water purification system.

At the San Leandro Marina water was pumped from the bay and transformed into drinking water. This marked the first time in history that a contained desalination, purification system has been operated using only solar power.
