Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 2500 Bermuda Ave., San Leandro (Marina Faire area) has hosted a number of festivals like the Festival in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia, the Feast of the Black Nazarene and now for the first time the parishioners and the festival committee have come forward to have a “Summer Festival” on Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It will be an event that will cater to the diverse community of San Leandro and the neighboring cities.
The proceeds will go toward a new roof of the church building. So this is a real worthy cause to support and have fun at the same time.
Mayor Cassidy has been invited as guest speaker as well as Rob Bonta, candidate for California State Assembly.
The festival will have games for the young and old. There will be games like Wii, wine bottle and soda toss, jumper for kids, basketball, goldfish ping-pong toss, minute to win it to name a few.
The food booths will be selling diverse food items to showcase the diversity of our city. So if one wants to taste a tantalising plate of adobo, pancit, lumpias, menudo, BBQ skewers, hot dogs, burgers, pasta chicken dinners, this is the place to be on Aug. 19.
The bake sale will have yummy desserts like cupcakes, cookies, pies, puto, turon and an assortment of delicious sweets.
A group of church ladies are already busy turning out arts and crafts for sale at the festival. The festival will also have yard sales.
Live entertainment will be hosted by Fe De Los Reyes. Special guest will be Ellona Santiago, a finalist of X Factor, a well known TV program. There will be groups doing the line dance.
Beth Garcia, chairperson of the Festival Committee, said “This will be a fun event, which no one should miss. A real community builder."
