Plants That Make You Look Good
Succulents are wonderful plants to try for so many reasons. Don't have much time to water? Don't know how to prune? Succulents might just be for you.
I was out in Fairfax today and found succulents everywhere. They were sitting in wine barrels, swinging from hanging baskets and stuffed into unique, little containers. I stopped at a cute little shop called The Potting Shed (http://www.potting-shed.com/) and found lots of inspiration. Check out the photos to see some of the wares at this dreamy shop.
There are many reasons to love succulents, but mostly, I think they make great container plants for a porch or a sunny spot on the patio. They require little care except for some water once the soil dries out, and a snip or two to remove old flower heads or leaves.
- Succulents like a porous soil. You can pick up specialty soil mixes labeled for cacti and succulents.
- They are good in almost any container. Just make sure you have a drainage hole.
- Water only when the soil dries out.
- Some succulents are freeze-hardy, some aren’t. Read the tag! Often, even the frost-sensitive plants will come back.
- You can mix different kinds of succulents together or just highlight one type.
Enjoy!
