Two Men Arrested After Suspicious Doorbell Ring

San Leandro police say the suspects had burglary tools. Could this incident be related to the rash of 'knock-first' break-ins that have been occurring in the East Bay?

San Leandro police have arrested two men who were allegedly in possession of burglary tools after a Washington Manor resident reported them for behaving suspiciously.

Police say the incident began about 8:30 am Monday when a man rang a doorbell on the 15000 block of Norton Street.

When the stranger realized someone was home he got into a car with another man and drove away, according to police.

Police say the resident phoned in a description of the men and their vehicle.

An officer stopped a vehicle matching that description leaving the area. Police say the occupants had no logical explanation for being in the area and that they possessed burglary tools.

The two men were arrested for possessing burglary tools.

They are:

  • Dana Brown, 30, of Hayward
  • Rahim Kenjoni, 32, of Pleasanton

About three weeks ago San Leandro police warned about a rash of residential burglaries in the East Bay in which suspects knocked on doors or rang bells to determine if anyone was home before they broke in.

San Leandro police are withholding details about the tools they retrieved in this case while they work with departments in other cities to determine whether these suspects may have been active elsewhere.
