San Leandro's TriNet Expands Again

Acquires a firm that does job costing, travel management and employee reimbursements, to add to its soup-to-nuts service offerings for businesses averaging 17 employees.

One of the biggest, overlooked employers in San Leandro is TriNet, the company based catty corner to the downtown BART station.

TriNet provides human resources, payroll, health insurance and similar services to small but growing firms that want to offer the perks of larger companies, but can't afford or manage such benefits inhouse, as TriNet CEO Burton Goldfield said in an interview a couple of years ago.

Friday TriNet announced that it had acquired ExpenseCloud, a Los Angeles-based firm that offers services such as job costing, travel management and employee reimbursements.

Like OSISoft, the company behind the Lit San Leandro fiber optic initiative, TriNet is one of the local firms that has deep roots in the high-tech community.

For job-seekers, it is also a regular source of postings and postions, so while today's news is mainly of interest to shareholders, it might be a reminder to check its career board.

Local business owners might have another reason to pay attention to TriNet and some of its big competitors such as ADP Total Source and Insperity (formerly Administaff).

These service providers make the pitch that they can provide better deals on such things as health insurance rates because they aggregate many thousands of employees into one buying pool. I last spoke to TriNet two years ago and at the time its average client company had 17 employees.
